Description

This workshop will explain the essentials of audio: the equipment used (both real and virtual,) signal path, and basic recording techniques. Students will come away knowing how to get a good quality digital recording, and with a basic understanding of audio as a foundation for more complex multitrack recording and editing.

Objectives

  • understanding of traditional signal path introduction to our sound booth and equipment
  • introduction to the programs we have: Audacity, Garage Band, Audition, ProTools
  • understanding of the elements of a digital audio program and how they emulate the traditional studio set-up
  • microphone set-up, use, techniques for getting good sound
  • simple recording of voice into GarageBand
  • getting good levels without distortion
