Description


An introduction to the OpenMP multithreading paradigm for C and Fortran programmers. Includes basic OpenMP concepts and an overview of the most commonly used parallelization features. Identifies pitfalls when implementing automatic parallelization and suggests possible solutions.

Additional 30-minute lab available.

Objectives

  • Understand the motivation for multicore programming
  • Understand the basic syntax of the OpenMP mutlithreading environment
  • Parallelize a simple C or Fortran code using OpenMP
  • Analyze the performance of a multithreaded program
